At first this verse may not seem to hold a very positive message; but there is one thing about it that stuck out to me, that even though God was against Sidon He was still willing to display His glory in that place and He was still willing to make Himself known there. Although this wasn’t good news for the people of Sidon, because it meant wrath and judgment, it is good news for us as believers in Christ. It is an example of Jesus’ words from the gospel of John being played out. In John Jesus says:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Even in the midst of suffering and conflict God is God, and eventually (in His timing) He will make His glory known and He will be proven holy. What a great promise! What a great God!
Thank you Lord for Your protection and care, thank you that You are a God of justice and truth. Let us rest in Your words and Your promise to give us peace even in the center of a troubled world. You are so good to us. We love you!
